In early 2014, we decided we were ready to start a family. As many of you know, our journey to become parents was not one without it’s challenges. We were diagnosed with infertility and pursued several different types of treatments before we began In-Vitro Fertilization in November 2015. Though our first transfer failed, our second one ended with success when we discovered we were pregnant in January of 2016. As you can imagine, our dreams and prayers were answered and we were overjoyed!
Our IVF journey inspired me to become very active in the infertility community (listen to the success story episode about overcoming infertility/endometriosis featured on the Beat Infertility Podcast here). Though I still remain active, our lives took another unusual turn once we began closely following our little bean’s development...

11 Months after Eleanor was born, we had an incredible surprise. I wasn’t feeling right, and decided, after a joke from my principal (“What’s wrong Lauren, still struggling with ‘pregnancy brain?!”) that I would take a pregnancy test. I was certain there was no way it could be positive, but I went home and took a test anyway. Adam was working late, and after Eleanor went to bed, there it was. A positive test. How many of these sticks had I peed on before? How many negative results had I had month after month with treatment? And yet... it was plain in front of me. Yep, I was pregnant. All on our own. God knew we were ready! Lucy was on her way, a miracle we never dreamed would be possible without more medical intervention.
Lucy’s pregnancy was incredibly healing for me. It was completely uneventful, complete with morning sickness, a growing baby, regular routine care, and no anomalies. I found out she was coming when I was 8 weeks pregnant, and the rest of the pregnancy quickly passed. She arrived on April 24th, at 9:36 in the morning as planned with a C-section. Her delivery was so positive for me. She was born at six pounds four ounces and 19 inches long. She had the cutest, tiniest feet you’ve ever seen. Her lips were so pouty, and she was born so happy, eyes open and ready for the world. Welcome to the world, Lucy girl!
